Mystery Metal 1

Friend of a friend stops in and asks if I will meet with an associate to build a part.

“Is it anything sketchy?”

“No, it’s legit, he just doesn’t want to disclose too much information just yet”

“Ok, lets see the print”

It’s a pen drawing, not to scale, with metric dimensions and decimal conversions. No tolerances listed.

This should be interesting. “I’m in. What’s the budget?”

A chunk of scrap plate is dropped off later that week.CB1

I’m already loving the ‘new’ Wells bandsaw, despite the dull blade that came with it.

CB2

I had to flip the plate to finish the cut, which leaves a sharp flange on the slug.

CB3

Cleaned up and turned to size.

CB4

Cutting the second step.

CB5

First and second steps cut.

CB6

CB7

Rough bore for center plug.

CB8

Bore and plug.

CB9

Pressed and ready to weld.

CB10

Tigged.

CB11

Drilling the center plug.

CB12

Bore to size.

CB13

Turning and facing to finished dimensions.

CB14

Cleaned up weld. Nothing touches that area, so finish isn’t critical.

CB15

And from the back.

Don’t know what it does, but it will bring someone closer to their vision.
